Contratulations Mo!

Ray's Boathouse is thrilled to announce that their awesome general manager Maureen "Mo" Shaw, has received the 2008 Full Service Operator of the Year Award by the Washington Restaurant Association. Anyone who has met Mo knows that she is passionate about building relationships with guests and crew, and that she has endless energy, an engaging style and genuine sincerity. Seattle Magazine Best Restaurants 2009, Readers’ Choice Winners

In the April issue of Seattle Magazine, the readers have spoken. Lombardi’s Neighborhood Italian took three categories -- Best Italian, Best Happy Hour and Best Wine Tasting. Other Ballard notables include Cupcake Royale (2052 NW Market Street) winner of Best Cupcakes, and Anita's Crepes (4350 NW Leary Way), who walked away with the Best Creperie award. Last Sunday, Beth and Karelle from Honey I'm Home Catering, pulled their bleary eyed selves out of bed and joined the ranks of vendors at the Ballard Farmers' Market. With their catering business well established, they are now able to return to this incredible venue after a near 10-year absence.

Each week they'll feature a changing variety of delicious items, in addition to their popular line of spreads and dressings. The Honeys will also be working closely with other vendors from the market, showcasing unique local products in their baked goods, soups and casseroles. Beth and Karelle will be on hand to make menu suggestions for busy families and to hand out a great special recipe of the week, gleaned from their “secret” files.

The Ballard Farmers' Market operates every Sunday from 10AM to 3PM on Ballard Avenue NW, between 22nd and 24th Avenues.

The moment many in Ballard have been waiting for has arrived--the opening of our new Trader Joe's! Chamber folks, as well as the general public and a host of Hawaiian shirt-wearing manager types were on hand to cut the ribbon. The Seafair Pirates also showed up and were a big hit. At least until they began running up and down the aisles throwing people and food into their carts. Our local Vikings stayed away to prevent any local skirmishes.

Be sure to stop in, check it out, and say hi to one of our newest members. Remember, they have parking in their building, which is free for shoppers. And be sure to watch for Pirates that might have been left behind!

It's another ribbon cutting--this time for 'Zaw Pizza. Chamber Ambassadors were on hand to welcome another great eatery to our community. Owner Greg Waring welcomed his new neighbors and treated us to delicious samplings of his artisan pizzas. Unlike some of Ballard's other new pizza bistros, this one is "take and bake." 'Zaw's concept is similar to that other big chain, but utilizes high quality, gourmet ingredients. Each is handcrafted just for you to take home and pop in the oven. Located on Leary Avenue in the northern Canal Station building, the newest 'Zaw joins Greg's other two locations on Capital Hill and in South Lake Union. To find out more, click here.
